Seasons
Autumn. A season of changes and contrasts. Warmth giving way to cool. Green leaves yielding to yellow. A lakeshore only days before that bustled with families and friends enjoying the warm summer days has gone silent. Waters that carried the passing wakes of summer fun now stand in stillness. Sun has given way to fog but in this season of change the fog will give way to the sun all in the same day.
Should a morning like this be sadness at the season passing or a joyful anticipation of a season to come? Take the joyful path and anticipate. The days behind are now memories in the mist and so we press on. Each falling leaf marks time like a metronome as it falls gently to the grass below. Soon the snow may fall but that only means that the beauty of spring is coming. Don't mourn the past... look toward the future.
Ecclesiastes chapter 3 reminds us that "There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven.... He has made everything appropriate in its time." Further in this passage we are reminded that all that we do in life is "the gift of God".
Next time you find yourself standing in the silence and serenity of a foggy October morning listen carefully and in the quiet be thankful for change.
